Even in the early days, the Minecraft crowd split off for Valorant. In June 2021 IRIS was organising “5v5 valo custom match[es]” and Snake volunteered to stream them 1 2.
From late December 2021 through January 2022 it took over. With the Minecraft server quiet and laggy, the chat filled up with a pingable “Valorant Player” role (“valorant now?”) 3, nightly matches, prop’s “first ace” 4, and GrimWatch on the Neon release (“neon ult is nice”) 5. The group even turned up on a streamer’s YouTube stream; “kek we were on yt”, said nYx 6.
Prop was struck by the irony: “some random ass discord server we made for minecraft is getting so many active people for valorant” 7. Eventually even he conceded “Can’t play valo all the time” 8.
The two games nearly merged. In January 2022 IRIS pushed to rebuild a Valorant map (Haven, Split or Breeze) in Minecraft, and prop promised “We will do a different map”, which he said would be “much easier compared to that palace” 9 10 11.
