The server’s Carpet mod could spawn fake players under any name, and the friends, prop especially, took full advantage. In Season 1, after kira opened up the Carpet bots and the Ledger inspect tool to everyone, prop discovered that he could spawn bots with any name. Kira spawned Technoblade and then K1bot 1, while prop’s own joke bots were Technoblade and jeb_ 2.
It stopped being funny on 2021-10-27. After The Fall, prop became convinced that the famous-name bots had advertised the server to the griefers (The Copenheimer Grief) and proposed banning Carpet bots, since “we got hacked because of that only” 3. Kira agreed that they had been targeted “because of the bots we spawned”, but did not think that meant a ban 4 (Proposal to Ban Carpet Bots). In mid-November prop was still policing it: bots were summoned with a simple /player <name> spawn command, and he insisted on not using famous names 5.
The tradition outlived the scare. In ASMP Limbo, the server chat log shows Notch, jeb_, Grian and MumboJumbo logging in one after another at the same spot on 2024-04-26, the last day of the world, as prop gave every bot a send-off in the lavacast 6 (see Carpet Fake Players).
