On the Axolotl servers a bot was just another player in the list. From the autumn of 2021 the chat is full of accounts that were never really anyone: witherskelfarm, Honey, spawn-chunk watchers, and K1BASE, kira’s bed-clicking bot that spammed a bed so night could be skipped (“if you want night kick the bot”) 1. Kick the wrong one and a TNT duper or flying machine stopped 2.
/player X spawn
Later seasons used the Carpet mod’s /player <name> spawn, which lets anyone conjure a named fake player to stand AFK, and /player <name> kill to dismiss it 3. The offline-mode server accepted any name, so the roster reads like a joke book: Steve, Copper, Food, Creeper, Iron, Sheep, BetterIron, wheat_farm_boi, cobble_prop.
When prop first put bot spawning off-limits because the group had “abused” it before, a single AFK bot quietly sat there making bone meal, and he switched it back on 4. IRIS found another use: hand the bot your valuables, then kill it to hide them 5.
Mr grim bot
prop’s habit was to name the bot after whoever he wanted to thank. “having grim bot afk my skel farm” 6 was followed by “u have done well mr grim bot” 7, and later “this time nyx bot will afk on my farm” 8.
The end of Limbo
At the end of ASMP Limbo prop left a bot called ripserver at his base to “afk for me” 9, then slew it with his Death Poker on 2024-04-26 10. The readers’ notes call it the first casualty of the lavacast. In Axolotl SMP Season 3 the habit carried on with Sheep on the wool farm and IronMan on the iron farm 11.
