The Nether Tunnel Community Project

On 27 September 2021 prop shared a design for a tunnel through the Nether, posted under the title “W.I.P Nether tunnel” ¹. kira’s reply to the design was “laughs in nether roof”. By the end of the day nobody was working alone.

prop opened the day with “welcome to wip mega nether tunnel project” ². The records mention glass and polished basalt in the original design, while the tunnels as built are prismarine and sandstone, which was abi’s idea. Everyone found a job. Suresh placed slabs, Kart supplied potions and bridged across gaps, abi laid a foundation that took two hours, and prop designed a domed hub: “this will be the central station” ³. The crew argued over whether to move the portals or the tunnel, and fought wither skeletons, ghasts and one piglin chase. nYx looked at the progress and declared “man this is ultimate” ⁴.

By the next day the highway to the End portal was done, with the hub finished at last: “central hub done” ⁵.

prop summed up what had happened: the tunnel was designed by abi and himself, “sponsored” by kira (who built the portals), and built by everyone, making it the “first unintentional community project” ⁶. He added that this was a world he had put a ton of work into and wanted to keep playing for a long time ⁷.
