Once the new PC was built (see The Server Build and the Missing CPU), the world had to move onto it. kira noted “server booted bro” on 11 March 1, and on 12 March he announced that he was “temporarily shutting down server to switch to new server” 2. The chat bridge then reported Server started! 3.
The first hours were rough. The server initially ran at half its usual TPS, then settled down. Then Suresh noticed something missing: “it didn;t ask for password” 4. Kira had forgotten to enable the password login, so he shut the server down again with an emergency command (“shutdown the server”, “forgot to enable password”) 5 6 and set passwords up properly. The custom texture pack still had to be reapplied on the new machine.
By 15 March the new hardware showed its worth: “holy shit server using 4gb when idle” 7, which on the previous machine had been the hard limit 8. The server now ran with an 8 GB heap.
