In Season 1, quitting did not mean leaving. It meant becoming a Watcher.
The role started as a joke about lurkers. Snake posted about once a month (“the monthly message”, as prop teased) and described himself as “Observing everything goin on here”. 1 2 Kart made it official: “btw Snakeeyes is watcher 1”, with Fili as watcher 2, a.k.a. “Supreme strange”. 3 4
Prop’s canon was that anyone who stopped playing “gained cosmic vision and ascended to the power of watcher”, so the role earned its nickname, “the ded role”, while IRIS observed that “dead ppl wont join”. 5 6 7 IRIS himself took the title; see IRIS Ascends to Watcher.
It had practical edges. Watchers could roam as spectator ghosts, and Kart told a newcomer he did not deserve the role yet: “u need the member role rn”. 8 In January 2022 prop added a rung between the two for inactive players like Saitama, who named it “celestial”. 9 10
By June 2022 the role had quietly become “Spectator”. Nobody knew who did it, nYx guessed kira, and prop said he was “too lazy to change back”. 11 12
