On 7 November 2021, after the 2b2t griefers had torn through Axolotl SMP Season 1, the world was restored from an old backup. The friends did not just shrug and rebuild. They turned the setback into lore.
The origin of the myth
prop was first to reach for the idea: the restored world was “an alternate timeline” 1, posed as the question “What if we didnt fuck up?” 2. He called the 2b2t grief “multiverse ultron fucking with us” 3 and suggested building some lore, a machine of some kind, to bring everything back 4.
nYx offered an in-world explanation: “asteroid strike everything gone” 5. prop added that the asteroid’s radiation “converted abishek’s smooth stone building into fucking netherite” 6.
prop’s written version in the chronicle channel is pure movie magic. Everyone on the server was sent 20 days into the past, and everything built in those 20 days was gone, including the bonemeal farm, witch farm, cobble farm and super smelter 7.
Living in it
The phrase stuck. Whatever was lost became “the future”, and a double temple spotted in it was a find from a world that no longer existed 8. Kart teased that “in this alternate time line u never built honey farm” 9. prop said the reset gave him a chance to fix his mistakes 10, and still counted his sponges “before timeline reset” months later 11.
The Branch Timeline
When Season 1 was restored again in 2026, prop reused the idea. In his telling the timeline breaks, and the players are sent back to the point after the hack to get a second chance 12.
