Season 1 was famously rules-light, and Ledger was how it stayed (mostly) honest. kira installed it in July 2021, announcing “We have ledger” and explaining that it was “coreprotect for fabric” 1. His warning came the next day: “If you steal shit I can see with ledger. so no shitty business” 2.
It had limits. The readers recorded that it could not record log stripping 3, and that it could not roll back entities 4. The database grew huge: 780 MB of a 3.3 GB backup 5.
Ledger’s big test was the The Copenheimer Grief of 27 October 2021. kira tried to roll the world back and reported that “not all entities/blocks are restored but it goes to a stage of almost repairable”, though the griefers’ lava stayed and kept destroying things 6 (see kira's rollback attempt and Ledger Rollback Goes Wrong). By 7 November prop could report “ledger working” again 7.
After the grief it became a tool for everyone. It settled disputes, such as a diamond payment argument in November: “use ledger and see” 8. On 8 December kira told the server “now you guys can use /ledger search” 9. Ten days later Kart asked him to fix the permissions so players could use /ledger i again 10. See also Post-Grief Security.
