Ledger Rollback Goes Wrong

The morning after the griefing of 27 October 2021 (see Aftermath of the 2021-10-27 Grief), the server came back online for a short while. ¹ kira joined and told the others that they had tried to recover the world the night before, but “we could undo only so much damage”. ² BotFragx (Suresh) hoped he could join, and kira said no. When BotFragx saw that all his things were there, kira explained: “we tried rolling back yesterday night but it wasn’t good enough”. ³

The tour showed what the rollback had left. Blocks were scrambled, and pieces of the nether roof had ended up at Kart's Lava Farm. abi’s inventory was gone, in kira’s words “abis gone”. ⁴ The Ledger mod, the block-logging tool meant to catch exactly this, had scrambled the blocks and could not roll back entities such as villagers. kira put it to himself first, “ledger fked up?”, and then answered it: ⁵
