ASMP Earth Ground Rules

Earth started out billed as near-anarchy and settled into "chill, not anarchy": bases inside the border, claims on the map, entities private, creepers harmless.

ASMP Earth ran on a 1:1500 scale map of the real planet, and its rules were assembled bit by bit in chat rather than written down once.

Launch

The launch announcement promised little: no hacking, no duping or game-breaking glitches (TNT duping and update suppression excepted), nobody restoring items after a random death, and otherwise “pure anarchy”. 1 Because food and passive mobs are scarce on an artificial map, new players also got a temporary starter kit that prop said would go once the server reached the midgame. 2 3

Settling in

By August prop was insisting the season was not anarchy: the focus was roleplay and cool builds. 4 5 The rules that grew up around that:

  • Claims. Only land inside the Earth border can be claimed, and claims are registered in the claim-maps channel. 6 There was a no-trespassing rule for claimed land, which is why kira’s “claim” of the ocean around Japan was a joke. 7 8
  • Bases stay inside. Resources beyond the border can be gathered, but “u have to make base inside the map”. 9
  • Public land, private things. Outside the border, the Nether and the End are public, and farms can be used but not wrecked. 10 Entities still belong to their owners, so kira’s bees could not be “kidnapped” and planes parked on a roof stayed theirs. 11 12
  • Creepers do not break blocks, at nYx’s request. 13
  • Sleep. At kira’s request, one sleeping player skips the night. 14
  • Flight. Elytra was nearly banned; planes were the intended way to fly, and there are no elytra-chestplates, so flying costs protection. 15 16
