The Beyond-the-Border Rules

The rules for the land outside the Earth map began as a side effect of an upgrade question. In July 2023 prop asked kira whether moving the server to 1.20 would be as simple as changing the build config and updating the mods, ¹ and in doing so realised that players could “go way outside the map” through the Nether and generate fresh chunks full of the new content. ²

By 13 August he had made a video about it. Ninety percent of the editing time went on the outro, styled after Valorant cinematics, ³ but the point was simple: “normal world generation started beyond the map border”. ⁴

The same day he laid down the law, which became part of the Earth rules:

making builds and farms beyond the world border is strictly restricted ⁵

Building out there was limited to exploration and fetching items that were unavailable inside the map. A farm that had to be built outside could not be claimed and “will automatically enter public domain”, and secret farms were banned. ⁶ All land outside the border was unclaimable and “strictly not privatizable”, and the Nether and End were likewise unclaimable. ⁷ Entities stayed private, so kira’s bees remained his: “no kidnapping and all”. ⁸
