The Origins Mod server of Necro Origin SMP was barely a month old when prop put the big question to the chat on 12 May 2021: “do we ditch origins for good and start mekanism”. 1
The replies pulled in every direction. Fili and Kart wanted to keep Origins. nYx floated something stranger: “or we can do a apocalypse kind of thing”, a lore-driven season with a few mods on top. 2 IRIS went off to research decorative mods, coming back with a city, horse carts and the Inspirations mod. Kart suggested a test server (“mke a test server”), 3 but the group decided that was too much work.
Forge versus Fabric was argued out alongside the content question, since Mekanism ran on Forge and the Origins world ran on Fabric. By the next day prop moved the decision to a dedicated voting channel, noting that “depending on what is decided” there, they could pick which mods from a showcase video to use. 4 Origins would stay up until the vote was settled.
The vote went to Mekanism. Season 2 opened on 22 May as a Forge Mekanism server (Potato SMP: Season 2 "Mekanism!"), which is how a casual question about one mod ended up deciding the shape of a whole season.
