The /skin Command

Many of the friends played on TLauncher, and TLauncher skins don’t show up to other players, so people tended to appear as Steve. prop’s fix started with the tl-skin-cape mod in 2021, “for seeing tlancher peeps skins and also your own mojang skin” ¹, and then, on the servers, with a skin plugin.

The core command was /skin set player <name>, which copies any player’s skin. prop used it to repair his own skin and cape ², and on 23 September 2021 to become Tommyinnit ³ (see Skin Swap: Technoblade, Dream and Tommyinnit). In 2022 he explained that the skins he could see were “the one from the skin plugin” ⁴, and told newcomers: “./skin set player name_of_any_player” ⁵.

Custom skins took more work. In 2023 players sent prop a skin.png, which he put in the server files, and they applied it with /skin set upload classic skins/rk.png ⁶. For ASMP Earth he also posted an optional FabricTailor client mod for uploading custom skins ⁷.

The command was also a toy. On the morning of 5 May 2024 Kart ran through skin set mojang AllMight, WalterWhite and Ryomen in turn, as the console log faithfully recorded ⁸. By 2025 the command was still in use: Akshay7432 went Grian and Hayan used an ely.by skin, and prop noted that commands appear in chat for everyone, which is how the bridge logged his admin commands ⁹.
