Season 1’s founding idea, from kira in July 2021, was a diamond economy: “not necessarily hermitcraft style, lets invent our own”. Diamonds were the only currency, and land cost diamonds too. 1 2 Anyone who did something for the community could bargain a fee, so shared projects would pay for themselves. 3
By late July everything was priced in diamonds, written “d”. A shulker box cost 4d, a max pickaxe 4d with the pick included, and Fili reckoned a netherite ingot at about 12d. 4 5 DeathHack127 offered a shulker box for 4 diamonds. 6 Later in the season prop sold boxes at 5 diamonds, which he called “hermitcraft prices”. 7
It was never taken very seriously. In September prop said the season would have no economy, only farms and sharing, and he joked they were “low key scicraft”. 8 9 kira’s answer was that diamonds were still the standard currency, with shops at your own risk and profit not the main motive. 10 11 He did draw one line: taking stock from a shop and saying “prop will pay” ruined the point of having shops. 12 IRIS meanwhile ran up a 90-diamond debt. 13
The economy found its home in November 2021 with the Shopping District, and by January kira declared “no more mathematical diamond mining, since we have a proper economy”. 14 By then tridents cost 32 diamonds and netherite ingots 4. 15 16
