On 17 November 2021 kira had a complaint. He told prop he would like to “bring back server economy”, 1 and the reason was simple: “I don’t want people just taking shit from farms/shop.” 2 As it stood, Season 1’s farms and shop were free for anyone to raid, and kira wanted prices attached.
Prop, it turned out, had been talking about the same thing with abi. Rather than debate it in text, prop asked kira to hop in voice: “no need vc want to design the mall?” 3 The two sketched the layout of The Mall on the weird_chad test server, a staging world away from the main map (see also Mall Design Showdown).
By 21 November it had become an official project. Prop summoned the role given to the most active members and announced, “bois i want to have a meeting in-game for discussing this new server economy”. 4
The idea would resurface in later seasons as the The Diamond Economy, and it sits behind the diamond economy opening and the later proposal to end it.
