On 26 January 2022 prop discovered RTX shaders and reported, with restraint, “bro i am in heaven”. 1 Two days later he posted the address of a new Aternos server, hardcorertxedition, set to hardcore and loaded with shaders. 2 He used a random seed, partly because he feared he had forgotten to switch hardcore on. 3 nYx started alongside him, and the others joined as the day went on.
It did not last. By prop’s own account, “first iris died when talking in phone”, and nYx later missed a water jump into a cave. 4 The first world was marked with a row of memorial signs and flowers. 5 A second world followed the same day: Kart walked into a creeper, nYx fell to a drowned, and prop went into creative and blew everything up. 6
Watching from outside, kira asked the question everyone was thinking: “bro wtf is this you guys speedrunning hardcore worlds”. 7
