On 23 June 2021 prop reported that the server was down 1. kira could not even SSH in 2, and the culprit turned out to be the oldest trick in the book: “somebody yanked the ethernet cable -__-” 3. Once the machine was reachable again, the Discord bot would not launch until he updated discord.py 4.
The next day brought a more official outage, a scheduled power shutdown in kira’s area that took the server down for most of the day 5. IRIS and prop played singleplayer in the meantime, with a stream in a voice channel 6. When kira announced “Server back online” 7, prop’s reaction summed up the wait: “have been waiting all day” 8.
It was an early taste of life on a home server, a theme that returned in The Server on Kira's Home Connection and the The Power Cut Saga.
