Axolotl SMS: Scrap Mechanic Survival

Not every Axolotl adventure was Minecraft. Over a few weeks in August to October 2022 prop, kira and Fili played a Scrap Mechanic Survival co-op world, which they jokingly dubbed “Axolotl SMS”. It could not be hosted publicly, so the world only existed while prop’s PC was on. By early September Fili was away for exams and prop carried on mostly alone.

Building up

prop did most of the engineering: he rebuilt his car, turned the group’s craft bot into an automatic crafter, moved and rebuilt the farm, cleared a forest and raided warehouses. ^{1 2} The garage filled with trucks, including a “big chungus truck” for hauling trader crates, and then a combine harvester that cuts, collects and refines wood and rock. The most over-engineered of all was “The Dumpster Harvester”, whose colour scheme was left to a group vote and came out in ADMK colours. prop said it looked like a weird ambulance.

Big Red

On 3 September prop accidentally went AFK, and the farmbot Big Red wrecked his entire van. ^{3 4} The backup did not include the vehicle either, which hurt because of all the organising, cleaning and resources that had gone into it. ⁵ He salvaged the valuable parts and started on a new car.

Security and the sky

The lesson stuck. By 2 October his farm defence system was holding up against raids: by the time he had killed three totebots it had dealt with more than seven haybots and the stragglers. ⁶

On 10 October, after raiding five ruined structures, prop built a thruster-powered flyer that reached the first warehouse “within a minute like its nothing”. ^{7 8} It burned a lot of fuel, so it was reserved for warehouse runs. nYx awarded it the “Sky’s the Limit” advancement as a joke and dubbed it Iron Man mode. ^{9 10}
