On the Season 1 server, the spawn area was not special. prop explained in November 2021 that kira had disabled spawn chunks to save the server from lag. 1 The consequence was that farms did not run when nobody was nearby, and in January 2022 prop spelled it out: “we dont have spawn chunk loaded”, so spawn “behaves like normal chunk”. 2
It shaped where people built. In October 2021 prop was already telling Kart to “go far from spawn”, warning that if he put laggy farms there the entire server would feel it, and that he should make a proper base away from it. 3 The advice read like a polite eviction notice for Kart’s base.
It also put limits on clever redstone. A wireless redstone or ender pearl stasis trick needs both ends loaded, and the only answer was a chunk loader, which kira noted would simply bring the lag back. 4
