In late November 2021, Axolotl SMP Season 1 decided it needed an economy. The friends held a meeting about the new shopping district (the place is catalogued at Shopping District, its rulebook at Shopping District Rules Announced), and players were asked not to claim plots or cut the terrain before it was over.
The rules
Plots were 15x15. abi’s proposal was that a plot cost “1 daimond block” to buy, with one block per month to rent; every shop had to be registered, with an agreement hung on it showing full authorization. 1 2 Shops were also to hold only a handful of items. A few days later prop pointed to the terms and conditions drafted at the meeting: anyone who griefed or stole in the district would be banned from the server. 3
Not ready for sale
The district’s most famous resident was prop’s own half-finished stall. He bellowed “NOT READY FOR SALEEEE” at anyone browsing, and left scaffolding at his totem and emerald shops. 4 His business model also demanded that customers return their shulker boxes: “i want the shulkers back”. 5 (For where the economy led, see Axolotl Shopping District economy and The Scammer Row Over the Emerald Shop.)
Mining is out of fashion
By Boxing Day the district had changed the server’s philosophy. When Saitama said there was no motivation to mine diamonds when “literally everyone else in the server is stacked”, prop’s advice was “make shops instead”, because “mining is out of fashion now”. 6 7
