Saitama Returns and Gets Online

On 5 October 2021 Saitama returned to the Discord and kira greeted him with “Welcome back my man”. ¹ prop pointed him to the history and farm-list channels, and kira briefly switched the whitelist off to add him before turning it back on. ^{2 3} Suresh and kira kitted him out with gear and elytra and showed him around Veteran Base. ⁴

Getting the game to launch

The hard part was Saitama’s own setup. His old laptop could not run 1.17, and a TLauncher video-card error sent kira off to troubleshoot. Eventually “minecraft works on my other laptop”, which promptly led to the question “Tf is raw iron”. ^{5 6}

The next day, prop, abi and Kart spent hours on his Fabric install, wrestling with OptiFine, OptiFabric, Mod Menu and the voice chat mod. ⁷ The recipe that finally worked was: “try removing optifabric and optifine”, then install Fabric for 1.17.1 and add Fabric API. ^{8 9} After a half-hour thread the game launched on the next click of “enter the game”.

Proximity voice chat was the last boss. Saitama reported “says voice unavailable” after kira’s !console voicechat test command; once he restarted Minecraft the audio worked. ^{10 11}

It was a small event, but a very Axolotl one: nobody was left behind if the group could help it.
