On 2021-07-07 prop made a discovery in JEI: there is a chance of ancient debris randomly spawning in a basalt generator 1. That was all he needed. He started “designing a basalt generator automatic farm thing” 2, and a little later announced that he had “designed a passsive netherite farm” 3.
The build was done in a test world with the Create mod, fed from a single basalt generator where lava and water meet. A mechanical belt line then smelts the output, turning gold nuggets into ingots and cooking the ancient debris.
prop followed up with a leaner version that needed only three energy sources, and posted two gold ingots as proof with the verdict “nice gold farm ngl”. He then proposed a Create schematic so the design could be built on the main server of Create Together 3. The finished build is covered on the passive netherite farm page.
