Forge or Fabric: the rebuild vote

On 27 October 2023 Limbo's Forge world was voted away and rebuilt from scratch on Fabric 1.20.1 in a single day.

Event Limbo 27 Oct 2023

Four days after ASMP Limbo opened, its mod setup was already getting in the way. On 27 October 2023 prop laid out the problem: a Forge world cannot be converted to Fabric, so switching meant wiping everything, though Fabric had the usual quality-of-life mods the group wanted.

His proposal was blunt: “im saying that i will recreate this server from scratch but on fabric”. 1 The pitch was to “start fresh with better optimizations and better mod support”. 2

The room agreed fast. IRIS gave up on the Forge world with a cheerful “yess we clear every thing and start fresh”. 3 Kart had already said start fresh. Prop counted heads and declared “thats majority vote for me”. 4

He did not wait. That same day he rebuilt the server on Fabric 1.20.1 with a new seed, set to hard difficulty and then eased to easy for IRIS. Anything built in the first few days of Limbo was gone, but the world that replaced it is the one the rest of Limbo’s history happened in (see The Limbo Mod Stack).
