In the first week of April 2022, kira stopped hosting Axolotl SMP like a hobbyist and started running it like a hosting company. On 5 April he announced to prop that Axolotl now had a server management console. 1 The next day: “axolotl smp has now been completely dockerized”. 2
The restarts
Players mostly noticed the move as a string of unexplained restarts. kira spent the afternoon of the 5th repeatedly bouncing the server while “doing some testing”, and then announced that “now axolotl has been shifted to that panel”. 3 4 prop and BotFragx noticed in chat, and kira had to reassure them that it was only testing. 5 (The panel itself later became a character of its own, see The Pterodactyl Panel.)
The web portal
On 7 April kira put a landing page on the server’s URL, with links to the SMP backups, a health check, a Transmission torrent client and Jellyfin. prop’s first reaction was “this is masssss”, and the whole thing “feels so professional”, though the backups page, he complained, was a “5th std html page”. 6
The upgrades kept coming. Nextcloud followed on 9 April, the Dynmap was fixed on 11 April, and by 22 May the backups were password protected. 7
