The bot that answered the question every session began with, “what’s the IP?”, was written by kira. During Create Together it ran as StonerBob. kira admitted he was “too lazy to create new bot, just gonna use staging bot of boomerbob” 1. By July 2021 it had become the Axolotl bot, and its messages appear under the name “Axolotl” from 2021-07-11.
It was a Python bot, and kira said openly where it came from: he “ripped off grim’s bot because I was too lazy and then added some commands myself” 2. That makes it a cousin of GrimWatch’s bot. The first version knew .ip, .status, .ping and .help. .ip replied with an embed of the server name and the current home IP 3.
.status was a different matter. It posted a raw systemctl status dump of the Minecraft service. prop kept asking for something tidier, and kira’s answer was “nah I want the entire shit” 4.
By late 2021 the bot had grown tools for running the server:
.texture <link> <sha1>set the server resource pack. kira walked people through it in December 5..maydaywas an emergency stop button, “anybody can use” 6..dnsupdated the domain record when the home address changed.
If the address had moved and the DNS hadn’t caught up, the bot told people to “try using the fallback address from .ip or contact admin” 7.
