The IOU was the server’s running joke about credit. In July 2021, in the first weeks of Axolotl SMP Season 1, Fili kept trying to pay later and to get the goods before paying. He wrote “IOU” in chat 1 and then “BOR” 2, and kira summed it up:

The lore readers record that the joke ended with a loss to the void, although the details are not in the chat excerpts.

The idea came back a year later in Axolotl SMP Season 2. On 30 July 2022, prop explained why an IOU was a bad idea: “and iou is extremely dangerous in a sense of anarchy”. 4
