Create Together did not die in a blaze of glory so much as in a polite poll. On 5 July 2021 kira asked whether the server was still active, because he had been thinking of taking it down 1. His verdict on the modpack: “create is good but its not my jam” 2.
prop was interested in pure vanilla survival with a few extras like voice chat, Hermitcraft-style 3. He worried about everyone quitting and leaving just him and kira building farms 4.
On 8 July, with the dragon freshly dead (see The last dragon of Create Together), kira wrote “I want to play vanilla so badly now” and asked for an end date 5. They settled on about a week. Prop put the question to the announcements channel and it drew nine reactions 6, and six people voted yes. IRIS objected that people who had never played a recognisable role in the Create world should not get a say 7. Prop answered that the new server was “the next season of this smp” 8.
Prop asked again on 9 July whether to “say our goodbyes” and start 1.17 vanilla with Hermitcraft datapacks 9. On 10 July he posted one word, “end” 10. That same day kira opened a new round of votes for the new world: creeper and ghast griefing, and the experimental cave-generation datapack, which would block a 1.18 upgrade 11. The result was the first Axolotl SMP season.
