The Airtel Wars and the Port Forward

With Tailscale failing on his Wi-Fi, prop played on mobile data at a precisely angled phone, and the ping-fuelled rage ended in a port forward.

Event Create S3 18 Sep 2025 – 22 Sep 2025

In the opening days of the Create season (Axolotl Create Season 3), prop could not connect the usual way. Tailscale, the VPN that the server relied on (see The Axolotl VPN), would not work on the Wi-Fi he had available, so he fell back on Airtel mobile data, with his phone balanced at one exact angle to hold a signal.

It did not go well. On 21 September he reported “from yesterday there is an upward trend in ping” 1, and the numbers were frightening, swinging from about 60 ms up to 640. The worst moment came mid-game: “And I was standing like face to face with two blazes” 2 when the connection died. prop directed his anger at Airtel by name, and the saga earned its title, the Airtel wars.

kira tried reverting the VPN and floated udp2raw as an option, then settled on a more direct fix. On 22 September: “port forwarding done” 3, routed through vpn.axolotl.pink.

prop logged in and asked whether this was heaven. The bridge faithfully recorded his one-word verdict: “heaven” 4.
