Until the end of February 2022, getting onto the Axolotl SMP meant keeping track of whatever IP address the server currently had. That ended on 2022-02-26, when kira dropped a new address into the chat: axolotl.k1r4.dev. 1
The domain came with a small piece of automation. kira added a .dns command to the server bot, so the record could be updated on demand and the address would stay put no matter what happened to the machine behind it. His own justification was that this was “for minecraft purposes”. 2
prop was the first to say how much he liked it:
having a proper ip with domain feels so good
It landed on the same day the server came back online for the homecoming in Axolotl SMP Season 1.
