Keeping the World for 1.18

kira and prop agreed to keep the pregenerated Season 1 world for Minecraft 1.18, letting new terrain grow beyond the 5k border.

On 13 September 2021, with the 1.18 world-generation update on the horizon, kira asked prop: “would you like to keep this world for 1.18?” 1

The worry was seams. Prop pointed out that because the world was pregenerated, there should be no trouble with “randomly one chunk being some shit”. 2 The pregenerated area reached 5k, and the plan was that the old terrain would stay as it was while new terrain generated beyond it. 3 If anyone did wander out to the border, kira had the fix ready: “I will purge the chunks during upgrade”. 4

In the same exchange the two reaffirmed that the economy was just for fun, with diamonds as the currency. 1
