The day after the steam engine was finished, prop had a bigger idea. On 28 March 2023, in voice chat, he asked: “want me to enable giga mode?” 1 kira said yes, and the engine was switched up to the “giga engine”. The readout hit 147k stress units. 2

The problem was still fuel. The engine ate kelp quickly, so prop set out to stockpile it. On 29 March he was “about to reach 2k kelp blocks in a second” 3, and the kelp-block store at the kelp farm kept filling. By 30 March, prop’s report was a single word: “giga”. 4 The chat marked this as the point where permanent steam power was achieved in Axolotl SMP Season 2.5.
